Who Are The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit?

Disclaimer: This information is designed to address a specific question. It is not all-encompassing with respect to all the Holy Bible affords us, nor it is designed to give a “road map” for all things in the heart of God, mind of Christ, illumination by the Holy Spirit. It is imperative to read this in light of God’s Word, and having received prayerfully an anointed understanding from God’s Holy Spirit.

A response to the question “Is there one God or are there three separate entities, and if so, what is our relationship or interaction with each?” The short answer: We relate to one God in three Divine persons. 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

In the beginning, God, the Father | Jesus Christ, the Son of God | The Spirit of God co-existed before the foundation of the world(s).

Genesis 1:27 – Let us make man in our image, after our likeness

John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God

1 John 1:1-3 – Jesus is the Word, and was in the beginning with God and manifested to the apostles/disciples

John 17:24 – [Jesus is praying to God] Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Genesis 1:1 (KJV) 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:2 (KJV) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

God, the Father is one Divine Person: The word “God” from Genesis Chapter 1 through Genesis 2:1 – is Elohim (Hebrew Strong’s 430).

Elohim is one of the Names/Facets/Character/Dimensions of God meaning Creator and Judge (Ruler) of the Universe. He is transcendent, meaning He is distinct from the creation that He created. God fills heaven and earth. He is transcendent, He is Immanent (El-Mikkarov – remaining within, indwelling, inherent), and He is Imminent (likely to occur at that moment or Omnipresent, He is everywhere present all the time). He has a Presence in the earth, but He is not limited to the earth. He is simultaneously present everywhere.

Genesis 2:4 – These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens…NOTE: In this verse 4, God interfaces personally with His creation, and this is the first time in Scripture we see “Lord God”, denoting “Jehovah Elohim”. Jehovah is The Self-Revealing One Who relates to His creation. When God moves in a way that He is close to man (relationship), He is YVHV (Yaweh). Jehovah is the God who personally reveals Himself to us. God is a person – I AM. Evolution puts us in an impersonal universe “the force.” God is a person who exists, not just a force who moves.

Genesis 2:7 (KJV) And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. The word breathed is HS 5301 napha (naw-fah) meaning puff of wind, to blow strongly.

Jeremiah 23:23-24 (KJV) 23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

John 4:24 (KJV) “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” The word “Spirit” is Greek Strong’s 4151 Pneuma meaning wind, breath, life, vitality.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God is one Divine Person:

John 1:14 (KJV) 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 6:38 (KJV) 38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Matthew 3:17, Matthew 17:5; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22; 2 Peter 1:17 – A voice came from heaven saying, ‘Thou art my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”

John 13:3 (KJV) 3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

John 5:36-37 (KJV) – But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. 37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

John 10:30 – I and my Father are one.

John 17:3-4 (KJV) – And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Philippians 2:5-8 – Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

John 17:8 (KJV) – For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

Colossians 1:17 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

The Spirit of God is one Divine Person – Ruah Elohim – The Spirit is the Ruah (HS 7307) meaning the breath/wind/ and HS 7306 Ruwach meaning an exhalation, blast of breath. Elohim is the Creator and Maker of the universe.

Genesis 1:2 (KJV) 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

John 15:26-27 (KJV) 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. The word “Comforter” is GS 3875 parakletos meaning advocate, consoler, the One Who comes along side of to help.

John 16:7-11 (KJV) 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

  1. Old Testament – God, Who is Spirit, spoke to/related to mankind by speaking to humanity through His chosen representative, usually a Prophet or a Judge, because Jesus and the Holy Spirit were still in heaven, and were not purposed for the earth yet.

1) Genesis 2:15-17 and Genesis 3:9 – God spoke to Adam

2) 2 Chronicles. 20:7; Isaiah. 41:8; James 2:23 – Abraham called friend of God

3) Genesis 6:8 and Genesis 6:13 – Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

4) Exodus 33:11 – Moses face-to-face

5) Judges 4:4 – Deborah; Judges 16:28 – Samson; Judges 16:21-23 – Gideon*

*Note: These are but a few examples; there are many, many more in the Holy Bible.

  1. Mankind continued the “on again, off again obedience” behavior toward God, to which God, Who always wants relationship with His creation/mankind, spoke that the sacrifices given by men (bulls, goats, lambs) were no longer acceptable.

1 Samuel 15:22 – And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Jeremiah 6:19-20 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it. 20 To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

Isaiah 1:11 – To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the Lord: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

  1. C. God sought someone who would become His required and acceptable sacrifice. God is Holy and does not look upon sin (disobedience). To restore the relationship between God and His creation, man, God required an acceptable sacrifice who could take upon them the sin that separated God from man.

Isaiah 59:16 (KJV) 16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

Hebrews 10:4-6 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

1 John 4:9-10 – In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Propitiation is GS 2434 hilasmos meaning atonement, acceptable sacrifice

  1. God, who is Spirit, poured Himself into flesh, becoming the Son of God, and the Son of Man because there was no one on earth who met the criteria of an acceptable sacrifice. There was no one on the earth who was sinless.

Luke 1:31-35 – And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Note: The body prepared in Hebrews 10:5 above is the result of Mary, conceiving in her womb, and thus Jesus as the “son of man” human being. And, Mary, having conceived in her womb by the overshadowing (envelop in a haze of brilliance) of Holy Spirit of God, not human but Deity, leads to Jesus, the Son of God.

  1. How do we relate to and communicate with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant (Testament)? Today God speaks to us in a variety of ways, primarily through His thoughts or written Word (logos), and also through His right now, spoken in this moment Word (rhema) which is delivered to us by His Holy Spirit, and through His Prophets, and confirmed by His written Word. We can speak to God because of Jesus, the acceptable sacrifice at Calvary Who restored our ability to be in the presence of a Holy God.

STEP 1: Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. This is the whole premise by which we can maneuver victoriously in the Kingdom of God, access anything from the Kingdom of Heaven, and see if manifest, in the Name of Jesus, on the earth. Jesus owns everything.

John 16:27-28 (KJV) At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

Colossians 1:12-22 (KJV) Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

1 John 5:20 (KJV) And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life

Hebrews 1:1-3 – God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

STEP 2: Jesus taught His disciples to ask the Father in Jesus’ Name. God is Holy; we desire to be holy, but until we achieve God-level holiness, we must be covered by the Blood of Jesus, that is, forgiven for our sins because we believe on the Name of Jesus, before we can approach God. We are not pure enough, but Jesus’s blood at Calvary makes us acceptable to, and accessible to God, The Father. We pray to, ask, petition, request what we need to accomplish God’s will on the earth by accessing heaven, and we can only get to, and through heaven by asking in Jesus’ Name.

John 14:13-14 – And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 15:7 – If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. NOTE: The word “abide” is GS 3306 meaning to stay, dwell, endure. So if we stay in Him, and His Word stays in us, THEN we shall ask what we will and it shall be done unto us. His Word is His will, so we must learn to ask, in Jesus’s name, according to what Jesus/God wants, not what we want.

John 16:26-28 – At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

1 John 5:14-15 – And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

  1. What about God’s Holy Spirit? What is His role? When Jesus was on the earth, He taught His disciples then (Luke 9:1-6 and Luke 10:3-11), and He prepared them to teach even us, down through the generations, to accomplish God’s purpose on the earth (John 17:17-21). What is God’s purpose for the earth? For the saints and prophets to rule and reign with Jesus (Daniel 7:13-14; Colossians 1:16; 2 Timothy 2:12) when He returns – Hagiosmos – To restore the earth, that which was once beautiful (Garden of Eden pre-sin, pre-serpent) to its original intent and purpose and to restore rule and reign of Jesus Christ upon the new heaven and new earth (Hebrews 12:22-25 and Revelation 21:1-2).

Luke 4:1-3 The Holy Spirit empowered Jesus to withstand the temptation of the devil

Acts 4:8-12 The Holy Spirit empowered Peter to speak boldly for Jesus Christ

Luke 12:12 and John 16:13-15 The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

1 Corinthians 2:9-16 The Holy Spirit helps us to discern spiritual things, the issues, matters, burdens of God from natural (man) things.

1 Corinthians 3:19 and 1 Corinthians 6:19 – The Holy Spirit, God’s dunamis or explosive power, lives in us to enable us. We cannot do God’s work without God’s power (Dunamis-Miraculous might, Exousia-authority, Ischus-prevailing power, kratos-Kingdom dominion, Energia-Effectiveness, Bia/Biastes – Aggressive power, and Megas – City-taking power).

1 Corinthians 12:7; 1 Corinthians 12:11, and Hebrews 2:3-5 – The Holy Spirit distributes the gifts of God

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
